Policies & Procedures

What we work to, summarised here and issued as controlled documents on request.

What they cover

  • Safety Policy

SSK accepts that the safety of our people, our client's people and the public comes before schedule and before cost. No task is so urgent that it cannot be done safely. Any worker on an SSK crew may stop a job they believe is unsafe, without consequence.

  • Risk Assessment & Method Statement

Before any scaffold is erected or dismantled, the work is assessed and a method statement is written covering sequence, load, ties, exclusion zones and material handling. It is reviewed with the crew at the work face — not filed and forgotten.

  • Competence & Training

Scaffolders work under a chargehand with erection experience on comparable structures. New team members work supervised until assessed as competent. Training is recorded and refreshed.

  • PPE Standard

Hard hat, safety footwear, high-visibility coverall, gloves and eye protection as a minimum. Full-body harness with double lanyard clipped to a suitable anchor whenever a working platform is incomplete.

  • Scaffold Inspection & Tagging

Every scaffold is inspected and tagged before first use, re-inspected every seven days, and after any alteration, impact or adverse weather. A red tag means the scaffold may not be used. Records are kept and shared with the client.

  • Toolbox Talks & Reporting

Daily briefing before work starts, covering the day's tasks, weather, simultaneous operations and any change since the last shift. Incidents and near-misses are reported and investigated so the cause is removed, not the symptom.
